Just Bought Lakefront Property? You Need a Multi-Level Dock

Homeowners who have bought lakefront property for the first time should consider adding a dock of some type to their home. Docks serve many purposes and are a necessity if the homeowner plans on enjoying the lake. That said, many types of docks exists on the market today, which can make choosing the right one difficult for some people.

However, those who have a little bit of money to spend should seriously consider installing a high-quality multi-level dock on their property instead of a single-level dock. A multi-level dock design utilizes an upper level and a lower level connected with stairs, ramps, or other types of climbing tools like ladders. These docks provide many benefits that single-deck docks do not.

Multi-Level Docks Provide Many Benefits

Multi-level docks provide a concentrated place for summer fun. First of all, the bottom level can store multiple types of boats, including Jet Skis, and keep them protected from damage during rain storms. And the upper level can protect people from a surprise rain storm when they sit beneath the roof.

However, the upper level also works as a place to sit in nice weather. For example, homeowners can sit on the top level, grill delicious food, have a few drinks, and enjoy the beauty of the lake. Those near deeper areas of the lake may even use the upper level as a diving board. In this way, a multi-level dock is a fun and engaging place for anybody buying their first piece of lakefront property.

On a similar note, multi-level docks help homeowners avoid the kind of fees common at public boat launches. Though small, these fees add up if the owner takes their boat out multiple times a week. Public launches are also often quite crowded and busy, which can make taking off at them more complex than walking out to a boat parked at your own multi-level dock.

Dock Types to Consider

These benefits make a multi-level dock an attractive investment for any homeowner, but before installation, homeowners must make sure to investigate their dock options carefully. For example, multi-level docks may be built out of many types of materials, each of which has multiple advantages and disadvantages that affect when they the most useful.
When building a multi-level dock, homeowners have a couple material options to choose from, such as:

  • Wood. This material option creates a traditional style for a home that is aesthetically pleasing. These docks typically cost anywhere from $5 to 12 per square foot (unless you use exotic hardwoods), making them a potentially more affordable choice for a multi-level dock. Be prepared for regular maintenance, though.
  • Aluminum. Aluminum docks utilize rust-free building options to provide a reliable and longlasting multi-level design. They also are much lighter than wooden docks. The interlocking edges create a sturdy and robust dock, but the cost of up to $15 per square foot may be unfeasible for some homeowners to finance.
Homeowners struggling to choose the best dock material type may need professional guidance. Expert dock builders can provide advice on which materials to select for a multi-level dock. With this help, homeowners can have the dock that they have always wanted for their lakeside home.
